How are Deerhorn oak countertops made?

How oak countertops are made is told by Rafal Pikul

1. preparation of raw material

preparation of oak wood

The process of manufacturing oak countertops for Deerhorn furniture begins with the preparation of the frieze, or finished slats of oak.

Oak frieze, are properly selected elements in terms of wood quality, so that the resulting countertops have the best possible mechanical and visual properties.

2. drying wood

After the frieze is prepared, the wood goes to a drying kiln. This process is crucial for the stability and durability of the finished countertop. The wood is dried for about a month until it reaches a moisture content of 9% (+- 2%). Such humidity parameters are optimal to prevent subsequent wood deformation, cracking or dimensional changes under the influence of environmental conditions. Controlling the moisture content of wood is extremely important, as wood that is too wet can deform, while wood that is too dry can crack.

3. planing and segregation

After drying, the slats are subjected to a planing process to achieve a perfectly smooth and even surface. Planing is done with great precision to remove any unevenness and residue from previous woodworking.

At this stage, the wood is also segregated by grade, meaning that the slats are evaluated for visual and structural quality.

Depending on the quality of the wood, friezes can be assigned to different categories, each of which is responsible for a different type of final products.

4. joining slats

After planing and segregation, the long slats go to specialized machines, where the process of joining is carried out with micro-joining technology. The slats are precisely glued and joined together to form larger panels, which after further processing will become finished countertops.

The joining process is extremely important, as it determines the final stability and strength of the countertop. High-quality adhesives and modern techniques are used to guarantee durable joints that are resistant to stress and external factors.

5 Finalization and packaging

Once the countertops are glued and pre-formed, they go through the final processing steps. They are carefully sanded to obtain a perfectly smooth surface, ready for further personalization, such as oiling or varnishing, depending on the customer’s preference.

Once these processes are completed, the countertops are carefully inspected for quality, and then packed and stacked on pallets, ready for further production stages.

Summary

The manufacturing process of Deerhorn oak countertops is a complex and multi-step process that begins with careful selection of the raw material and ends with a finished product of high quality. Precise drying, planing, jointing and final finishing are the steps that ensure that the countertops are durable, aesthetically pleasing and ready for long-term use in a variety of interiors.
