New requirements for office chairs: ergonomics and safety at work according to 2023 regulations

Ordinance of the Minister of Family and Social Policy dated October 18, 2023. amending the regulations on health and safety at work at workplaces equipped with screen monitors introduces significant changes aimed at improving working conditions and ergonomics at office workstations. One of the key elements is to bring office chairs up to modern standards, which is essential to ensure the comfort and health of employees during prolonged computer work.

According to the new regulations, office chairs must meet a number of requirements for stability, height adjustment, back and seat shape, as well as provide the ability to swivel. These requirements are intended to minimize the risk of injury and reduce fatigue caused by poor posture. Bringing workstations into compliance with these standards is mandatory for employers until May 18, 2024.

Based on this regulation, our range of office chairs fully complies with these standards, providing the highest comfort and ergonomics in the office and at home.

Requirements for office chairs:

  1. Stability and safety – The chair should be equipped with a base of at least five supports with caster wheels to ensure adequate stability.
  2. Height adjustment – The chair must allow the height of the seat to be adjusted to accommodate the height of the user.
  3. Backrest adjustment – The backrest of the chair must be able to adjust the height of the lumbar spine and the angle of inclination, which provides a comfortable body position.
  4. Comfortable cont ouring – The seat and backrest should be contoured to fit the natural shape of the spine and thighs, minimizing the risk of fatigue.
  5. Rotatability – The chair must allow 360° rotation for freedom of movement.
  6. Adjustable armrests – The chair should have adjustable armrests that improve comfort while working, reducing strain on the arms and wrists.

These rules are designed to ensure the comfort and safety of office chair users, minimizing the risk of injury and fatigue that can occur during prolonged work at a desk.
